Description
The Office of Strategic Coordination (Common Fund) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for theNIH Director’s Pioneer Award, part of theHigh-Risk, High-Reward Research program. TheNIH Director’s Pioneer Awardsupports individual scientists of exceptional creativity who propose bold and highly innovative research projects with the potential to produce a major impact on broad, important areas relevant to the mission of NIH. The Pioneer Award emphasizes the qualities of the investigator and the innovativeness and potential impact of the proposed research. Preliminary data and detailed experimental plans are not requested or required. The proposed research must reflect substantially different ideas from those being pursued in the investigator’s current research program or elsewhere.
Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful and responsive projects. Investigators of exceptional creativity with a high-risk, high-impact proposal are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO. This NOFO will utilize the DP1 (Clinical Trials Optional) activity code.
