GrantLab Process

Successful grant proposals require careful planning. We help you address:

  1. Intake (45+ days before deadline)

Review and discuss the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and complete an intake process to assess your competitive fit for the program.
  2. Project Scope

Consult a grant professional with expertise in the federal department you’ve identified. Discuss scope of work, costs, and payment structure; set roles, responsibilities, and expectations; and issue a service agreement.
  3. Project Launch (30+ days before deadline)

A kickoff meeting to get to know the grant professional who will assist you; establish and agree upon a timeline, and begin the work
  4. Proposal Development

Collaborate with the grant professional to develop a high-quality grant application. GrantLab staff is also available for additional support.
  5. Submission Support

Grant professionals answer final questions or provide technical assistance as you submit the proposal.
  6. Project Closeout

GrantLab staff streamlines the billing process as we watch for an award decision and strategize next steps.

Grant Writing FAQs

Successful grant proposals require careful planning. We help you address:

How does Nevada GrantLab find an expert grant writer for my proposal?

GrantLab has competitively procured a network of expert grant professionals who have successfully written for a range of federal agencies.

How much will my Grant Services project cost?

Pricing varies based on several factors, including:

  • Vendor Rates: Each grant professional sets their own pricing.
  • Funding Opportunity: Quotes are customized based on the specific requirements of each funder.
  • Level of Support: Costs differ depending on whether you need an independent review, co-write, or full proposal development.

Because of these variables, pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis. The figures listed in our materials serve as general guides and are subject to change as we expand our services. For the most accurate pricing, we provide individualized quotes after assessing your project needs.

Can GrantLab help lower the costs of grant writing support?

Yes! Thanks to generous donors, Nevada GrantLab provides free staff time for outreach, intake, vendor prospecting, administration, billing, and facilitation. After refining a vendor’s quote, partners contribute as much as they can comfortably afford, and GrantLab may help bridge any remaining funding gap. This model allows us to sustain and scale our support for organizations that need it most.

How does GrantLab decide which projects to support?

GrantLab reviews components of your organization’s overall readiness for federal funding, your project concept, and the funding opportunity to assign a tier designation to your project.

  • Tier 1 projects have a high likelihood of award. The organization is ready to or is already managing direct federal funds successfully, the proposed project is highly responsive to the funder requirements, and the funding opportunity is lucrative with no local competition identified. GrantLab earmarks 25% of the budget for Tier 1 projects.
  • Tier 2 projects have slightly less competitive assessments. There may be fewer awards, or the opportunity may provide single-year funding. GrantLab earmarks 60% of the budget for Tier 2 projects.
  • Tier 3 projects have a lower likelihood of award. This tier is often assigned to organizations applying for their first federal grant. Projects may be designed specifically for the funding opportunity, or the organization does not have a successful history of delivering the services proposed. The funding opportunity may have an extremely limited number of awards. NGL earmarks 15% of the budget funds for Tier 3 projects.
